Coffee Is Healthy After All…Well Some Kinds Are

Having never had a cup of coffee, I didn’t imagine I’d be writing a blog about the benefits of this enormously popular drink. Like many, I had believed coffee to be addictive and detrimental to health. But when my girlfriend showed me the extensive research, I began to change my view.

spray_lowres_largeWhat I learned is that while coffee has many benefits, most brands are loaded with pesticide residue and organic coffee is often plagued with mycotoxins (mold). So I began to search for a coffee that was free of both chemicals and mycotoxins. This search led me to Longevity Coffee.

While 59% of Americans consume coffee daily, it has long been considered an unhealthy, dehydrating vice, comparable to soda. This was my belief too until recently! Research shows that coffee does not cause dehydration at all! The science actually indicates that drinking coffee can significantly reduce our risk for many serious diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, cirrhosis, dementia, Parkinson’s, and colon cancer.

Sound too good to be true? Well, it sort of is. Just as raw cacao (the basis for chocolate) has many health benefits, eating Nestles milk chocolate is far from a healh food! The same goes for coffee where there is a huge difference between organic, toxin-free, alkaline Longevity Coffee and the mass produced, commercially farmed, name-brand coffees. Not all coffee is created equal. Despite spraying, some coffees contain mold. People in the industry have reported that some of the rich flavor actually comes from the mold! Gross.

COFFEE-master1050The type of coffee most prone to mycotoxins is… organic coffee. Mold flourishes in hot, humid climates close to the equator, where all coffee is grown. Thus, every acre of non-organic coffee is sprayed with 250 pounds of chemical fertilizer to prevent mold from growing on the beans.

Also, regular coffee is highly acidic, with a pH between 4 and 6 (below 7 is acidic), and contains high amounts of chlorogenic acid, which causes stomachaches in a high percentage of coffee drinkers. In addition, big-name coffee companies typically sell blends of coffee, in which one bag can have beans from many different countries. It’s just impossible to oversee the process of so many different plantations.

But there is hope – with Longevity Coffee

While all coffee is grown within 1000 miles of the equator, there are certain high elevation valleys where the low humidity makes the coffee less prone to these deadly mycotoxins and thus chemical pesticides are not needed to protect the plants. Such a place is Vilcabamba, Ecuador, known as the Valley of Longevity.

At 5,000 feet elevation, this pristine valley in southern Ecuador provides the perfect conditions for coffee to grow wild. The volcanic, mineral-rich soil makes the coffee slightly alkaline (7.2 pH)…perfect for human consumption. Containing very low chlorogenic acid, this special Ecuadoran variety, known as Longevity Coffee, doesn’t cause the unpleasant stomach symptoms as does regular coffee.

Because the coffee is grown in one place, the entire process is overseen only by trusted Longevity Coffee employees, who ensure quality by hand-picking only the most mineral-rich and robust coffee beans.

Perhaps the most exciting finding about Longevity coffee is that it scores 48,896 on the ORAC scale (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity)! This means Longevity Coffee is an extremely potent anti-oxidant. Typical coffee has an ORAC score between 15 and 17,000. By comparison, Gogi berries score 25,300 and wild blueberries score 9,600.

The high ORAC rating is why Longevity coffee is so effective at preventing many health conditions…by neutralizing the aging, inflammatory and tissue damaging effects of free radicals. And best of all, this coffee, grown in clean high-altitude air, fed by spring water in mineral rich soil makes for an extremely robust and delicious coffee experience.

As an experienced kinesiologist, I could not wait to muscle test this stuff! I muscle-tested several people on Longevity coffee compared to several brand name coffees. The subjects closed their eyes while we muscle tested each bag of coffee for them on a 10-point scale. “On a scale of 1-10,” I asked, “how beneficial is this coffee for your health?” I was amazed to find that all regular coffees (organic or not) scored between 3 and 5 while Longevity Coffee tested between 9.8 and 10 on every single person.
